Wow. Been quite awhile since I've read a book like this.
My brother has been fairly convinced for a little while, that this book would be all about Secret Invasion (based on nothing more than the title, and the cover). I was kind of hoping that it would be myself.
But I'm much happier about what it actually is.
***SPOILER ALERT***
1985 is the tale of a small boy (told in flashback) who lives in the same universe as Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Ours. He's having a touch time with life in 1985. His parents have broken up, he's become withdrawn from most things, and his mind is filled full of comic books.
Which is why when he goes for a walk with his Dad, and sees the Red Skull, he knows something is very wrong...
Mark Millar's script is fantastic, and it works excellently with Tommy Lee Edwards 'thick' style of artwork, both managing to create a genuinely interesting and intriguing picture of our world.
Pete's Score: 4 out of 5
(an interesting surprise - and one that may quickly become a classic - recommended)
