FEATURE: Web Comic Wednesday Presents... 'Awakenings'

Past Web Comic Wednesdays have shown me some pretty fantastic stuff. And today, reading Awakenings by Eric Hobbs - I'm happy to say this is still the case.

Awakenings is a web comic that is ever so slightly different to the usual Wednesday entry. Different in that it wasn't originally conceived to be a web comic.

Eric's work has previously seen both print, and critical acclaim. But sadly, not enough sales to keep the book on the shelves.

So, as with many things, Awakenings was temporarily 'shelved', putting Gabe Pena's brilliant artwork and Eric's future story plans to one side. But Eric Hobbs, much like the Cylons, had a plan.

He always intended to come back to the book, and do it justice. And now, via the web, he is.

Awakenings opens with an interesting setup (which I won't spoil), remeniscent of Top Cow books such as Witchblade or Tomb Raider. An action filled sequence, filled full of excitement, with a dash of mystery. Good ingredients for a nice comic-shaped pie, well worth digesting.

In reading Eric's work, I can't help but think about how the sheer quality of work on the web at the moment, is truly amazing. Just look at Two Rooks, Real Life or The Fart Party if you're in any way skeptical or unconvinced. Or - even better - have a look at Awakenings itself.
