Well crikey. It's a rare thing when a taster comic leaves you gasping for more. I've been a fan of Juan Jose Ryp's artwork ever since he took Frank Miller's script for Robocop 2 and made it into one of the very best comic books ever made. Its worth mentioning that he did also, however, take a very long time to do that.
To those of you who have never picked up one of his books before, Juan's artwork is something just this side of supernatural. I've yet to see any other artist, working in comics today, that's able to inject as much life, energy and detail into every page. And I'm not overstating that - he is simply that good. But as you might expect, that means he isn't the fastest artist out there.
But anyway - take that powerhouse start, and mix in some words from Warren Ellis. Words that may very well change the face of comics today.
To say that No Hero has the chance to be something truly unbelievable is an understatement. If Warren and Juan live up to the potential created within their chemical fuelled superhero world - this will be special.
I for one, will definitely be picking this book up when it comes out in August.
Pete's Score: 4 out of 5
(incredible artwork - terrifying script - hopefully a wonderful taster of things to come)
