REVIEW: Birds Of Prey - 117

So this week I'm making a concious effort to read more books that aren't Marvel. "Why?" you may ask. Well - looking down the list of recent posts, I've noticed that the majority of books I've recently reviewed appear to be from Marvel.

Therefore, time to read a DC book. And why not a DC book that I haven't read in a long time? Yes - that's right - it's time to have a look at the latest issue of Birds Of Prey...!

Now - going in, I had no preconceptions whatsoever (as I wasn't up to speed on the book), so to get a good score, this issue had to succeed in the job of grabbing my attention, dragging me in and making me want to stay.

Shockingly - it succeeded in all three, pretty much right off the bat.

But what actually happened?

***SPOILER ALERT***

The book opens with Manhunter walking away from a stakeout at the Platinum Flats, which quickly turns into a brawl with three unknown villains, all of which are super powered, and super angry. Sadly. this battle doesn't prove to be Manhunter's friend - necessitating an intervention from the plucky Misfit...!

Needless to say - both are captured pretty quickly.

Things take a turn for the worse from this point onwards (like they weren't already bad enough), leading to some very nasty moments for both Manhunter and Oracle (from afar)...

Now, telling you any more truly would be criminal - so I'll leave it there. I will however end by saying that the artwork within the book from Nicola Scott compliments the writing style of Sean McKeever wonderfully, and the whole issue is an absolute joy to read from start to finish.

Pete's Score: 4 out of 5
(a very pleasant surprise - recommended)
