FEATURE: Web Comic Wednesday Presents... 'The Fatsquad'!

Man alive have I had too many chillies today. At lunch I must have had at least three red chillies on my pizza, and this evening I had a crazy craving for a chicken madras (which must have come with another three or four ground chillies).

To say I've just spent the last 15 minutes 'paying for this' would be a true understatement. I feel as though I may need a blood transfusion at any moment - but luckily, I'm 'stable' enough to take a moment out to talk to you about The Fatsquad.

The Fatsquad is one of those rare webcomics that has managed to successfully maintain a loyal fanbase for years. A fanbase loyal enough to help facilitate The Fatsquad's recent  'leap' from online only, to their first collected volume.

Quoting from their recent press release on volume one...

"What happens when you combine a gang of fun loving fat guys, a strange cast of supporting characters, time travel, police chases, and low brow humor?  The answer can be found in this summer's debut book from New Englands own Fatsquad! The Fatsquad Volume 1 is a collection of comic strips following a number of storylines that take the main characters on adventures like they have never seen before.

From being chased by Dinosaurs, to arguing the finer points of eating contests, to going on a series of blind dates, there is never a dull moment in this first volume of comic strips from Jetpack press. Follow the adventures of Al, the scientist super nerd, Chawdawg, the drunk Canadian with a heart of gold, Dan, the ornery video gamer that always has something mean to say to everyone, or Fartcloud...who needs no explanation.  What will happen when the Squad find themselves searching the land for their pal Body Pillow?  There are as many crazy moments as laughs, and even a few twists and turns to keep you turning the pages until the very end."

Needless to say - Rich Brunelle and Josh Belanger's work speaks for itself, making obvious the reasons why it has remained so popular since its creation. Fantastically funny, and wonderfully well paced, the comic is so good that I caught myself in mid click after whizzing through twenty pages, in what seemed like the blink of an eye...!

As you will probably understand if you've read it - I also found myself relating a little to the opening 'cake frosting body lotion' story in Season 7. After 'forcing' my madras down today - determined to finish it, despite the burns in my mouth and the cries of my stomach...

I really should have listened to my inner Angelica.

And speaking of which - now is a good time to depart I think, as the throne room - she calls to me...!

(give The Fatsquad a read by clicking here - and then say hello to Rich and Josh over at MySpace!)
